This past year has been historically the most politically infamous year to date. We have witnessed what many would consider a debacle of a presidential race, but we here at Outcry have a different perspective on things. With that being said, there has been a question that we have not been able to shake or supply an answer to, until now…

Why have believers, whose hope is in heaven, gotten so caught up with the election of Donald Trump as if their hope was gone and it’s the end of the world? Where then is our hope truly? What do we not understand about KINGDOM?

God is SOVEREIGN

Let’s start first with the definition of the word SOVEREIGN.
Dictionary definition is: Supreme ruler. Possessing supreme or ultimate power.

Now the sovereignty of God is the biblical teaching that all things are under God’s rule and control, and that nothing happens without His direction or permission. God works not just some things but all things according to the counsel of His own will (Eph. 1:11).

His purposes are all-inclusive and never thwarted (Isa. 46:11); nothing takes Him by surprise. The sovereignty of God is not merely that God has the power and right to govern all things, but that He does so, always and without exception. In other words, God is not merely sovereign in principle, but sovereign in practice.

There is absolutely nothing that happens in the universe that is outside of God’s influence and authority. As King of kings and Lord of lords, God has no limitations.

God places rulers

Daniel 2:21-22 states “It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding. “It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, And the light dwells with Him.”

Keeping in mind the sovereignty of God and reading the above verse then we have hope in knowing that absolutely nothing happens outside of God. We, in our flesh, our own thoughts and wants, may not agree, but I’m certain that Daniel didn’t think that being thrown in a den of lions was good for him either. Yet he went and kept his faith in God and his hope in the knowledge that the God he serves is not only greater than the jaws of a lion, but more powerful than the king that put him in there.

Our hope is in eternity

Here are some of the truest words ever written: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God” (Psalm 42:5)

Some people think hope is an emotion. “I’m feeling hopeful,” they say, but true hope is a discipline, a determination to believe in God’s reality and power, even when the world seems to be crashing down around you. That is the genius and the power of hope. Are you placing your hope in the government, educational system, some plan or organization?

As believers our hope is found in the Lord Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of God. We have hope and know that we’re going to heaven. What we live right here and now in this present life is nothing in comparison to that hope. This life is fleeting, but while here we have God’s presence to help us.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11) God tells us that His plans for us, for our future involves hope. Why then do we allow ourselves to get caught up in the trials and turmoils as though we have none?

Our hope is in Jesus Christ and His promises. Our hope is to one day be with him again as He told us we will. The things of this world, the good, the bad, the problems and their solutions are momentary, our hope in Him is eternal…
